Islamic group, ASGAT ask Sanwo-Olu to take a critical look at the cabinet list sent to Lagos Assembly
The Al ulamah Support Group for Government Accountability and Transparency (ASGAT), has added its voice to the call on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu to take a critical look at the list of Cabinet Nominees sent to the State House of Assembly for screening and approval.
The List consisting of 39 names had been generating reactions from different quarters especially Islamic groups and the Muslim Community in the state.
The list also generated hot debate on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly as some members accused the Governor of neglecting notable politicians who lost out during the last elections from the list.
It was observed that the list was one-sided as it contains only 9 Muslims while the rest 30 were Christians.
In a statement released in Lagos the National Coordinator of ASGAT, Imam Abdulateef Agboola said the action of the Governor is capable of creating disaffection among adherents of the two religions.
He believes the Governor still have the opportunity to correct the anomaly adding the Muslim Community vote massively for the ruling APC during the 2023 general elections.
According to him, the state had enjoyed peaceful coexistence among people of different religions and tribe for years, noting that whatever could lead to disharmony in the state must be avoided
The Lagos State House of Assembly is expected to commence the screening of the cabinet nominees this week for subsequent approvals.
E-signed,
Imam Abdulateef Agboola,
National Coordinator, ASGAT.
