Federal lawmaker, Bayo Balogun says plans underway to amend the Electoral Act to allow conclusion of Election Tribunal cases before swearing in of winners
A member of the National Assembly, Hon Bayo Balogun has said that plans are underway to amend the 1999 constitution to ensure Election cases are concluded at the Tribunal before the swearing in of winners.
Balogun who disclosed this while speaking on a monitored programme in Lagos said the move was to give more credibility to the electoral process.
The federal lawmaker representing Ibeju Lekki Federal Constituency also said that the continued victory recorded by APC at the Tribunal demonstrates that their candidates had genuine cases to revalidate their mandates or reclaim it..
According to him, it was unacceptable for anyone to castigate INEC over the conduct of the 2023 General elections.
He explained that non transmission of Results electronically by INEC does not invalidate the process since the Electoral Act do not compel INEC to do so.
Hon Balogun made it clear that INEC cannot be sued on that because it also raised alarm on attempt to hack its system while the exercise was on.
The House committee Chairman of INEC denies report making the rounds that members of the Narional Assembly received #100m each as Palliative.
He however noted that the Constituency projects initiated in the National Assembly became imperative to ensure widespread of projects across the nation.
The lawmaker said there are possibilities that Ministers may influence the centration of projects in their areas at the detriment of the larger public.
On the threats by the Nigeria Labour Congress to embark of indefinite strike, Hon Balogun believes that will be ironical since NLC supported Labour Party in the last elections.
He wondered why the NLC abandoned their primary objectives of ensuring improved worker’s welfare but decided to be playing partisan politics.
Hon Bayo Balogun said although times are hard but assured Nigerians that President Tinubu will not disappoint on the Renewed Hope Agenda campaign.
