Farmers reacts on the declaration of State of Emergency on Food Security by President Tinubu
…Calls for direct empowerment of farmers
Reactions have been trailing the decision of President Bola Tinubu to declare a State of Emergency on food security in the country.
Presidential Spokesman, Mr Dele Alake disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa,, Abuja.
He said the President took the decision to address the rising cost of food items and other consumables in the country.
Some farmers in their reactions described the move by the President as timely and welcome development.
Two of the farmers who spoke with thenewsnow online platform are Samuel Oluwaseyi Ajagbe who is the Team Lead at Frontend Agrosolution Limited and Abdulhakeem Hammed, the Director at Haat Agrotech.
The farmers said President Bola Tinubu must first find a lasting solution to insecurity ravaging some parts of the country which had made it difficult for farmers to access their farmlands and harvest their produce.
They also demanded for direct empowerment to farmers interms of fertizers and other farm inputs noting that similar gesture from government in the past hardly gets to the beneficiaries.
Speaking further, Samuel Oluwaseyi Ajagbe noted that establishment of more farm settlements are required to engage fresh graduates from the NYSC and other class of Nigerians that couldn’t access white collar jobs.
On his part, Abdulhakeem Hammed who advocated for soft loans to farmers said all efforts must be geared towards reducing wastage during harvest and movement of farm produce to markets across the country.
