Raping, Robbing Female Passengers: Suspected Commercial Taxi Driver Nabbed by Police in Lagos State

Crack operatives of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, have arrested one suspected commercial taxi driver, identified as Adedayo Ben Adegbola, who was allegedly involved in multiple cases of rape and armed robbery against female passengers.
It was reliably gathered that the suspect, whose picture had earlier gone viral online in connection with several cases of rape, defilement, assault occasioning harm, indecent assault, and multiple armed robberies on female passengers in parts of the state, was tracked down by the detectives who had been on his trail since the reports were made.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said:
“Following strict directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the crack detectives and operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) commenced a detailed and discreet investigation into the complaints lodged by victims of the suspect’s dastardly acts.”
According to her, the painstaking investigation by the Police Joint Investigation Teams led to the arrest of the “vicious and notorious suspect” on October 31, 2025, at about 09:40 hrs.
She added that the operational vehicle used by the suspect—a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT—was recovered from his possession.
“The suspect is currently in police custody. Investigation is being intensified to arrest other accomplices suspected to be involved in the crimes. The recovered vehicle has been secured as an exhibit and will be used in the prosecution of the suspect,” the PPRO stated.
SP Adebisi further urged victims of the suspect to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to provide relevant information and evidence that would aid the ongoing investigation, assuring that their identities would be adequately protected.
She added: “The Commissioner of Police reassures the public of the Command’s firm commitment to protecting all residents, ensuring justice for survivors, and maintaining the security of Lagos State. Updates on the investigation will be provided in due course.”
