NUT Surulere, Elo-Fokanbale Foundation Host Free Medical Outreach for Teachers, Residents to Mark World Teachers’ Day
As part of activities marking this year’s World Teachers’ Day, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Surulere Branch, in conjunction with the Elo-Fokanbale Foundation, has concluded arrangements to hold a free medical outreach tomorrow, Sunday, October 5, at Obele Community High School, Surulere.
The free medical outreach, expected to commence at 11 a.m., will provide services including blood pressure checks, general health counselling, malaria tests, and free distribution of drugs to beneficiaries.
Ahead of the event, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Surulere Branch, Comrade Giwa Oluwakemi Omobola, said the initiative was borne out of the need to ensure the well-being of teachers and other residents in the area.
She explained that if indeed health is wealth, all efforts must be geared towards ensuring that the mental and physical health of the people are given priority in the face of current socio-economic challenges in the country.
Comrade Giwa further noted that such interventions are crucial at this time, adding that everything cannot be left to the government alone. She urged residents of the area to arrive early in order to benefit from the free medical outreach.
Every October 5 is set aside to mark World Teachers’ Day — a day to reflect on the challenges confronting the teaching profession, especially those relating to welfare, and to proffer lasting solutions.
The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2025 is “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” emphasizing that quality education is built on cooperation, shared expertise, and mutual support among teachers, schools, and systems.
