Effective Policing: Lagos CP Declares State as Safest in the Country, Parades Suspected Criminals and Recovered Firearms, Ammunition Over Four Months

Officers and men of the Nigeria Police (NPF), Lagos Command were jubilating on Saturday over the modest achievements recorded by the State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olarenwaju since his assumption of office in September, 2024.

While parading large numbers of suspected criminals arrested for varying offences and firearms recovered within the period in review, CP Ishola disclosed that the Command through Intelligence led policing succeeded in arresting hoodlums who would have unleashed havoc on Lagos, especially during the Christmas and New year festive season.

He said the suspects were apprehended for various offenses ranging from armed robbery, carjacking, murder, kidnapping, abduction, gender-based violence, cyber bullying, cult activities, illegal possession of firearms, and vandalism.

CP Ishola hinted that the Command did not only took interest in what happened in the State, but also outside the State because of its importance to neighbouring States.

The CP who attributed the successes to keeping with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, applauded officers and men of the Command for their unwavering commitment in their ability to keep to directives and their being humane while in the discharge of their various duties.

According to him, “Comparatively, Lagos is rated the safest state in Nigeria and we appreciate the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his logistics support throughout all our efforts in the quest to save Lagos’ initiative. I want to give it to my police officers and men for their unwavering commitment in their ability to keep to directives and their being humane while in the discharge of their various duties”, the Police Commissioner emphasised.

Basking in the euphoria of the successes, CP Ishola disclosed that a total number of 2,176 cases were charged to various courts under this period in review, noting that the Command was well enabled to keep Lagos safe.

Speaking further, he said, ” We maintain a high level of professionalism in line with the external laws and rules of Nigeria and in line with the world-based practices in investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses.

“We rescued many people in distress either through one-chance robbery, kidnap attempts. We rescued them on horse and they are united with their family while the offenders were taken to custody.

“Many have been prosecuted. We still have some remaining with us for further investigation. Today, we are parading a number of suspects as you can see for various offenses that range from armed robbery, carjacking, murder, kidnapping, abduction, gender-based violence, cyber bullying, cult activities, illegal possession of firearms, and vandalism.

For ease of reference, we have serialized and summed up all these offenses into categories. We are showing today assemblage of arms and ammunition of various make, grade, and calibers being recovered in our quest to keep Lagos safe.

“These arms and ammunition we are showcasing today are essentially for visuals and I want to appeal to people that have a photosensitive epilepsy not to let this thing hold them”.

Our correspondent gathered that some of the high profile cases were busted by operatives of CP Tactical Team Charle Surulere led by CSP Sunday Cirman, CP Tactical Team, 2nd Rainbow headed by CSP Baba Mohammed, CP Tactical Team Isheri, headed CSP Rotimi Aduroja and others.
