Senator Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Collective Action to Protect Children on UN Day for Prevention of Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has reiterated the importance of protecting children from all forms of abuse and exploitation.

In her message to mark the UN Day for the Prevention of, and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence, observed annually on November 18, the First Lady called for increased vigilance and collective action to safeguard children’s rights.

Senator Tinubu emphasized that the day serves as a grim reminder of the grave harm inflicted by child abuse, including sexual exploitation, child labor, trafficking, and violence.

She described such acts as crimes against humanity and obstacles to the healthy development of children.

“Child abuse, whether through sexual exploitation, child labor, rape, trafficking, or violence, are all grave crimes that are detrimental to a child attaining their full potential. These acts defy the very essence of humanity,” she stated.

The First Lady urged individuals and communities to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse to the appropriate authorities, underscoring the shared responsibility to create safe and nurturing environments for children.

“My advice to all is to watch out and report any such incidence to the appropriate authorities. Be your brother’s keeper,” she said.

Senator Tinubu further highlighted the significance of the UN-designated day, describing it as more than a symbolic gesture. “It is a call to action, a promise to children everywhere that we will stand for their rights and safeguard their well-being. Any abuse to a child is an abuse to the very core of our being,” she declared.

As Nigeria joins the global community in observing this day, the First Lady reiterated her commitment to advancing policies and initiatives aimed at protecting children and ensuring their well-being.

“God bless our children,” Senator Tinubu concluded, reaffirming her belief in a collective effort to build a safer and more just society for future generations.
