…Unveils five-point agenda for 2027 Budget of Consolidation and People’s Welfare

The Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi, has highlighted the achievements of her administration across education, healthcare, infrastructure, environmental management and youth empowerment as the council commenced consultations for its 2027 budget.

Adunni spoke on Friday at the Year 2027 Stakeholders Budget Consultative Forum held at the council’s Secretariat Multipurpose Hall, where she said the administration’s interventions were largely driven by the needs and recommendations presented by residents and stakeholders at previous consultations.

The chairman described the forum as an important platform for inclusive governance, stressing that the people remained the owners of government and must therefore have a say in determining projects and programmes to be prioritised in the coming fiscal year.

Reviewing the administration’s achievements, Adunni said the council had made significant interventions in the education sector, including the revival of the Annual Spelling Bee, provision of learning materials and Back-to-School Packs containing school bags, uniforms, exercise books, water bottles and other educational materials.

She added that the council had renovated classrooms, constructed sick bay and crèche facilities, supported its Adult Literacy Programme with learning materials and provided free JAMB and GCE forms to more than 1,000 indigent students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

According to her, the administration had also prioritised healthcare through the renovation of Primary Health Centres and the organisation of free medical outreaches.

She cited the rehabilitation of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu PHC at Akiogun and the renovation of the council’s Staff Clinic, which she said was also stocked with drugs.

Adunni further disclosed that the council raised ₦17 million to support the medical treatment of Master Alfred, a resident facing kidney-related health challenges.

In infrastructure, the chairman listed the construction and rehabilitation of inner roads, including the former Boys Town Road, now renamed Adunni Akindele Road, and the Dual Carriage 2nd Avenue.

She said the council had also constructed drainage systems to address flooding, installed solar-powered street lights to improve security and visibility at night, and procured a 50KVA generator for the council.

On environmental management and social protection, Adunni said the council had sustained its monthly sanitation exercise, embarked on drainage clearance and tree planting, and intensified community sensitisation on proper waste management.

She also said the administration had provided financial support and palliatives to widows, elderly persons and persons living with disabilities through the Renewed Hope Cash Empowerment Programme.

The chairman said youth development remained a major priority of the administration, noting that 150 young people recently completed training in digital skills, including Digital Fashion Illustration and Digital Marketing.

She added that the council had procured tools and start-up equipment for beneficiaries of its Catering and Hospitality, Adire and Fashion Design programmes to enable them to establish businesses, create employment and contribute to the local economy.

Looking ahead to 2027, Adunni announced that the council’s proposed budget had been christened the “Budget of Consolidation and People’s Welfare”, with emphasis on five major areas.

She said the council would focus on infrastructure renewal, education and human capital development, health and social welfare, youth and women empowerment and job creation, as well as security and environmental sustainability.

According to her, the council would prioritise road rehabilitation, drainage construction and street lighting across its seven wards based on identified needs, while sustaining educational interventions and renovating more primary schools.

She also disclosed plans to upgrade Primary Health Centres towards 24-hour service delivery, with greater attention to maternal and child health as well as the welfare of elderly and vulnerable residents.

The chairman said the council would expand its skills acquisition centres, support small businesses and market development, strengthen ICT training for youths and provide additional security logistics in collaboration with relevant agencies.

Adunni urged the stakeholders to identify projects and services requiring urgent attention in their respective communities, assuring them that their submissions would be documented and reflected in the council’s budget proposal to the Legislative Arm.

The forum was attended by councillors, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Abdulhameed Ayodele Alawaye; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Tolutope Falope; supervisors, special advisers; Council Manager, Mr. Joseph Abiodun; the Council Treasurer, Mrs. Tayo Edun; NULGE and members of the management team.

Taofeek Lawal; APC leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, CDCs, CDAs, market women and men, artisans, youth and women leaders, religious leaders, representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, persons living with disabilities and NURTW, among others.
