LASUTH CMD Hails Sanwo Olu’s Health Investments as Ikeja Golf Club Donates Medical Equipment
The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, has applauded the Lagos State Government for its sustained support in improving healthcare delivery across the state.
He acknowledged that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has continued to prioritise the health sector through regular funding for the acquisition of modern medical equipment and the development of human capital.
Prof. Fabamwo gave the commendation while receiving the donation of medical equipment to the Paediatric Department of LASUTH by the Ladies Section of the Ikeja Golf Club in collaboration with Philantify and Sudabelt Medical at the hospital in Ikeja.
He said the incubator, among the equipment donated, came at the right time and would complement the hospital’s existing facilities for the care of sick babies. He expressed delight at the due diligence carried out by the donors and assured them that the equipment would be put to optimal use.
The CMD also expressed appreciation to the donors, noting that the challenge of the “Japa” syndrome in the health sector is gradually reducing, as it is no longer as difficult to recruit health workers as it once was. He, however, urged Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora to return home and give back to the society that nurtured them.
He maintained that it is more cost effective to train medical doctors in Nigeria than abroad, describing it as unfortunate that the country’s skilled medical workforce continues to be lost to other nations at the expense of Nigerians.
According to him, despite Lagos currently having one teaching hospital, 30 general hospitals, and 57 primary healthcare centres, there is still a need for greater investment in medical infrastructure to ensure quality healthcare is accessible to residents across the state.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Captain of the Ladies Section of the Ikeja Golf Club, Otunba Modupe Oyeduntan, said the donated equipment would greatly benefit the Paediatric Department of LASUTH. She added that the hospital’s management was delighted with the range of items donated through the joint effort.
According to her, the donation was part of the club’s commitment to giving back to society, noting that the Ladies Section undertakes a charity project every year, with this year’s initiative tagged Charity Visitation to LASUTH.
Asked when LASUTH should expect another similar intervention, Otunba Oyeduntan said the incoming leadership of the club would continue the tradition of supporting worthy causes.
Speaking on behalf of one of the donors, Philantify, Abisola Olowe described the organisation as an impact platform that provides support for people in need by partnering with organisations to identify communities with genuine needs.
She added that Philantify’s interventions are not limited to government hospitals, noting that the organisation has also supported public schools based on identified needs.
