APC Lagos Congress: Sanwo-Olu Urges Party Unity, Mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state to intensify efforts towards securing the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, alongside victories for all candidates contesting on the party’s platform.

The governor gave the charge on Tuesday during the 2026 Lagos APC State Congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

Sanwo-Olu, who attended the congress alongside his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, and other senior government officials, praised President Tinubu for providing leadership that has kept the party united and focused in Lagos State. He also acknowledged the impact of the policy reforms introduced by the President at the national level.

More than 2,000 delegates drawn from the three senatorial districts in Lagos State participated in the congress, which returned Cornelius Ojelabi as chairman of the 37-member state executive committee of the party through an affirmative vote.

Sanwo-Olu described the exercise as a demonstration of the party’s strength and internal cohesion in the state, noting that the APC continues to maintain a strong political structure in Lagos.

He also expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the party for deploying a congress committee to oversee the process and ensure a smooth and credible exercise.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, said the committee was honoured to preside over the congress, which she described as a significant moment for the party in Lagos.

She noted that Lagos remains politically strategic to the APC, describing it as the political base of President Tinubu and a state with one of the largest voting populations in the country.

According to her, the congress was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines, stressing that only duly registered members of the party were eligible to participate in the process.

In his acceptance remarks, Ojelabi thanked party members for renewing their confidence in his leadership, pledging to lead an inclusive executive that would promote unity and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

He assured members that the new state executive would work collectively to secure electoral victories for the party across all levels.

The APC chairman also commended the National Assembly of Nigeria for maintaining productive collaboration with the executive arm of government in delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.

Among dignitaries present at the congress were the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; former Deputy Governor, Abiodun Ogunleye; and members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, including Tajudeen Olusi, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Anthony Adefuye and Mutiu Are.

Others in attendance included the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa; former member of the House of Representatives, Yakub Balogun; and former Lagos State Commissioner for Rural Development, Lanre Balogun.
