MSSN–NIJ Pays Courtesy Visit to Dr. Abdullah Jibril Oyekan

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) chapter has paid a courtesy visit to the Ikoyi home of Dr. Abdullah Jibril Oyekan, a founding member of the MSSN and Chairman of its Board of Trustees.
The delegation which was warmly received was led by the MSSN NIJ executives led by the Amir, Yusuf Sodiq and one of the lecturers in the school, Mr. Taiwo Olapade.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Abdullah Jibril Oyekan shared the history of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, recounting how the movement originated among Muslim students in the early 1960s. He explained how the society was later launched in Lagos and eventually established across the country.
Dr. Oyekan also shared personal experiences on his background, early life while highlighting his dedication to Islam and his lifetime dream and commitment to the growth of MSSN.

The Amir on behalf of the MSSN executives expressed appreciation to Dr. Oyekan for his fatherly guidance, prayers, advice, and continued support to Islamic affairs in the country.
Special thanks were given for his assistance towards the forthcoming MSSN Ramadan public lecture scheduled for March 6, 2026.
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Olapade who expressed appreciation on behalf of the delegation for the warm reception commended Dr. Oyekan for his inspiring life journey—from his struggles as a student in London to his service to the nation as a civil servant and his role as a prominent advocate of Islam in Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that Dr. Oyekan’s story had deeply impacted the MSSN delegates
The visit concluded with group photographs, after which the delegates observed the Dhuhr prayer before departing for their various destinations.

The visit was facilitated by Mr. Mohammed Yahya Aminu, a Postgraduate student of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba.
