Osinbajo to Deliver Inaugural ICOBA Lecture as Igbobi Targets ₦10bn Fund
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, will deliver the inaugural Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA) Public Lecture as part of the activities commemorating the school’s 94th Founders’ Day celebration.
The event is scheduled for Monday, 2nd February 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Rev. Angus Memorial Hall, Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos. The day’s proceedings will commence earlier with a Founders’ Day communion service at 8:00 a.m. in the school chapel.
Professor Osinbajo, a distinguished alumnus of Igbobi College, will deliver an insightful address on the theme: “Endowment as Legacy: Building Generational Strength for Educational Institutions in Nigeria.” His talk promises to inspire and galvanize efforts to sustain and elevate educational excellence across generations.
The lecture will mark the official launch of a ₦10 billion Igbobi College Endowment Fund—an ambitious move to secure the enduring legacy and future of this historic institution. It’s a bold, game-changing initiative designed to ensure Igbobi College’s continued excellence for generations to come.
According to a statement issued by Mr Femi Bankole, ICOBA Publicity Secretary, the endowment initiative aims to recommit to, reimagine, and reform the future of Igbobi College through strategic investments in infrastructure and student development. Key areas of focus include: infrastructure renaissance; expansion of student life facilities and dormitories; advancement of science, technology, and innovation; sports and arts excellence; and digital transformation and smart learning systems.
The event is expected to attract prominent alumni, public office holders, and business leaders. Among the anticipated participants are Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief Mrs Maiden Ibru, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, Sir Opeyemi Agbaje, Pa Elliot Oladipo Yemitan, and Mr Siji Adeyinka, among others.
The Endowment Committee is chaired by Mr Kunle Elebute, with members including Mr Wale Adeosun, who heads the fund raising committee, Mr Emeka Emuwa, Dr Adesegun Akin-Olugbade, Mr Femi Soremekun, Mr Seni Adio, Dr Ayo Abina, Mr Kayode Adewuyi, and Mr Olawale Abiola.
The lecture will be chaired by Mr Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, while the Chief Host is Chief Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, the 12th President of ICOBA. The event will be moderated by Prof. Anthony Kila.
Founded in 1932, Igbobi College remains one of Nigeria’s foremost secondary schools, and the endowment initiative is seen as a strategic move to secure its legacy for future generations.
The inaugural lecture signals ICOBA’s intention to place institutional sustainability and educational excellence at the centre of its anniversary commemorations.
