Lagos Govt Apprehends Bullion Van Driver for One Way Traffic Violation
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its zero tolerance for traffic violations with the arrest of a bullion van driver for driving against traffic along the LekkiβAjah corridor on Monday.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, confirmed that the driver, identified as Mr. Daniel Ikede, was apprehended for contravening the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 by unlawfully driving against the designated flow of traffic.

According to officials, the incident occurred while the bullion van was moving from the First Bank branch along the Chevron axis toward Ajah. Upon interrogation, the driver admitted to driving in the prohibited direction, claiming he was following a police escort vehicle that accompanied the van from its point of departure.
While traffic officers successfully intercepted the bullion van through prompt intervention, members of the alleged escort team reportedly fled the scene, evading arrest.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Giwa condemned the act, describing it as reckless and an unacceptable display of impunity. He stressed that no individual, vehicle, or institution is exempt from the law, regardless of status, function, or the presence of security escorts.
He further warned that driving against traffic, commonly referred to as one way driving, remains one of the most dangerous traffic offences in Lagos, often leading to loss of lives, damage to property, and severe disruption of traffic flow.
Hon. Giwa reiterated that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to enforcing traffic laws with firmness, fairness, and without exception.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority urged all motorists, including private, commercial, corporate, and security assisted drivers, to comply strictly with traffic regulations, noting that violations will attract decisive enforcement actions in line with the stateβs commitment to public safety and efficient mobility.
The apprehended driver and the bullion van have been taken into custody and are expected to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
