LASTMA Rescues Trapped Driver in Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Ikorodu Road as Sola Giwa Urges Road Safety Consciousness
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Tuesday averted a fatality following a multiple-vehicle collision along the Ojota inbound Ketu axis of Ikorodu Road, involving three vehicles on the main carriageway.
The accident occurred when a Toyota Sienna with registration number KRD 311 JH slowed down to allow pedestrians to cross the expressway, with a mini truck positioned behind it. A Volkswagen commercial bus, reportedly driven at high speed, failed to decelerate and rammed into the two stationary vehicles, leading to a violent crash.

As a result of the impact, the driver of the Volkswagen commercial bus was trapped inside the wreckage. LASTMA rescue operatives arrived promptly at the scene and deployed specialised equipment to extricate the driver, successfully rescuing him and preventing a potentially fatal outcome.
The injured driver, who sustained fractures, was subsequently rushed by fellow commercial motorists to an undisclosed medical facility for urgent medical attention.
The swift intervention of LASTMA officials also helped to prevent further casualties and ensured the restoration of vehicular movement along the busy expressway.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Area ‘H’ Ogudu Division provided security support during the operation, managing the crowd, securing the accident scene, and facilitating the smooth conduct of the rescue exercise.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured driver. He commended the professionalism, courage, and rapid response of LASTMA operatives, noting that their actions underscored the agency’s critical role in saving lives and promoting road safety across the state.
Hon. Giwa also warned motorists against reckless driving, urging them to adhere strictly to speed limits, exercise patience, and remain vigilant, particularly in areas with high pedestrian activity. He stressed that compliance with traffic regulations and responsible driving habits are essential to reducing road traffic accidents.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to continuous traffic monitoring, rapid emergency response, and proactive traffic management, while calling on all road users to cooperate with traffic officials and obey traffic laws in the interest of public safety and orderly movement across Lagos State.
