Nigeria Dismisses Trump’s Claims of Christian Killings, Reaffirms Commitment to Religious Harmony

The Federal Government of Nigeria has refuted recent comments by former U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in the country and suggesting that Nigeria be designated as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government described Trump’s claims as misleading and inconsistent with the realities on the ground.

“Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully,” the statement read, adding that the country appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom but rejects exaggerated narratives that misrepresent its situation.

The statement emphasized that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian government remains fully committed to combating terrorism, promoting interfaith harmony, and safeguarding the lives and rights of all citizens.

Nigeria, the ministry noted, will continue to engage constructively with the United States government to enhance mutual understanding of the nation’s regional challenges, as well as its ongoing peace and security initiatives.

The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
