Iganmu Senior High Shines at Agricultural Scholars’ Quiz as Lagos Celebrates World Food Day

The Lagos State Government has commended the impressive performances of secondary school students who participated in the Lagos Agricultural Scholars’ Quiz Competition, held as part of activities marking this year’s World Food Day celebration.

The keenly contested quiz, which drew a capacity crowd at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, saw Iganmu Senior High School, Apapa emerge as the overall winner.

Government Model Girls College, Agunfoye, Ikorodu clinched second place, while Birch Freeman Senior Secondary School, Surulere came third.

Presenting prizes and cash rewards to the winners, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, Mr. Emmanuel Audu, said the event was aimed at encouraging Nigerian youths to see agriculture as a viable career path and a key driver of food security in Lagos State and the nation at large.

He explained that the competition was a deliberate effort by the state to “catch them young” by exposing students to the numerous opportunities and benefits within the agricultural value chain.

Mr. Audu also urged residents to support government efforts and embrace subsistence farming to help reduce hunger and poverty across the country.

The grand finale of the World Food Day celebration, the Farmers’ Fair, will take place tomorrow, Thursday, October 16, at the Police College, Ikeja, starting at 10 a.m.

The event will feature an exhibition of various agricultural produce and inputs available for residents to purchase at discounted prices.
