Laguda Distributes 10,000 Exercise Books, School Bags and 215 Laptops at Surulere Town Hall/Back-to-School Programme
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has reassured Nigerians of the continued passage of bills that directly impact citizens and promote the socio-economic development of the country.
He stressed that improving the quality of life of the people remains the focus of the National Assembly in all ramifications.
The Speaker gave this assurance in a message to the maiden Town Hall Meeting/Back-to-School programme organised by Hon. Fuad Kayode Laguda, member of the House of Representatives representing Surulere Federal Constituency 1, held at Bola Tinubu Hall, Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos.
Represented by Hon. Lanre Okunola of Surulere Federal Constituency 2, Abbas explained that the essence of the town hall meeting was to provide a forum for hearing directly from constituents to ensure prompt responses by their representatives.
On his part, Hon. Fuad Laguda noted that while the core duty of lawmakers is to pass bills and conduct oversight functions, it was also imperative to spread the dividends of democracy to constituents. He emphasized that strengthening human capital development and skill acquisition remains a priority, revealing that more than 4,000 lives have been directly impacted by his projects in the last 20 months in the Green Chamber.
Laguda disclosed that he had facilitated the construction of schools, roads, and solar street lights currently ongoing in the area. He added that although his target is to distribute 100,000 exercise books to schools within Surulere, he had already distributed 10,000 exercise books—containing the history of Nigeria—along with school bags and 153 laptops in the first instance.
“These books are not just for learning but also to refresh the memories of students on the history of our country,” he explained, assuring constituents that more people-oriented projects would follow.
Former Council Chairman and Commissioner, Hon. Agboola Dabiri, urged the students to dedicate themselves to their studies to secure a rewarding future and to shun social vices. He praised the contributions of President Bola Tinubu to Lagos and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to the socio-economic development of Surulere.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, commended Hon. Laguda for strictly following the footsteps of his predecessor and Surulere leader, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, by rendering accounts of stewardship to the people. She congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them not to sell the items but to use them judiciously for their personal development.
Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Muiz Dosunmu, speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Bamidele Yusuf, expressed unwavering support for all elected representatives of the area, noting that Laguda has lived up to the expectations of the people.
In his remarks, APC LGA Chairman in Surulere, Sherrif Balogun, described the forum as “dividends of democracy in action,” adding that he was glad the federal lawmaker was investing in students to inspire knowledge and empower entrepreneurs.
In total, 25 secondary schools and 23 primary schools in Surulere Federal Constituency 1 received exercise books and school bags, while 215 residents went home with laptops to enhance their businesses.
