LASG COMMENCES FARMERS’ REGISTRATION UNDER THE PRODUCE FOR LAGOS PROGRAMME

The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has commenced the registration of farmers’ operating in Lagos State under the Produce for Lagos Programme.

The Programme is a strategic initiative designed to stimulate increased food production for the Lagos market through structured off-take agreements. With a population of over 24 million residents and rapid urban growth, Lagos remains the single largest consumer of food in Nigeria.

Under this initiative, farmers will enjoy direct access to a secured market where their produce will be purchased at guaranteed prices. This arrangement will reduce the risks of quality and volume fluctuations, promote price stability for consumers, and increase farmers’ incomes. Furthermore, it will expand opportunities for inter-state agricultural trade, enhance logistics and distribution networks, and strengthen the entire food supply chain.

The Programme focuses on both boosting food productionwithin Lagos and establishing strategic partnerships with farmers in major food-producing States across the country.

By enrolling, farmers will be integrated into a central database which will serve as the foundation for planning, interventions, and the delivery of support services under the Programme.
