“Nigeria Belongs to All of Us. I Am Arrogantly Nigerian. I Love This Country” – First Lady Oluremi Tinubu
…Charges CEOs in Government on Women’s Economic Empowerment and Mentorship
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged women in leadership positions to work harder in making life easier for other women through economic empowerment and mentorship.
She made the call when the Forum of Female Chief Executive Officers of Government Agencies and Organizations paid her a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa.
Describing the CEOs as trailblazers who are excelling in their roles, the First Lady stressed that they have a duty to replicate themselves in younger women.
“Birth yourselves in others. Look for them to mentor them. Replicate yourself in other women, and that is the way we will be strong,” she said.
“Make yourselves unforgettable by the things you do outside your office.”
Senator Tinubu reminded the Forum of great matriarchs including Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, Gambo Sawaba, Abibat Mogaji, and others, noting that they did much for Nigerian women by uniting and speaking up when necessary.
“We have to come together, better and stronger than them. We must ensure that we make life easier for women. Mentor young women, give scholarships, take one person through life. Don’t look for the volume,” she added.
On her decision to call for partnership in the completion of the National Library, the First Lady said the project would be instrumental in supporting indigent students in their educational pursuit.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, the Director General of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, reaffirmed their commitment to national service and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
“As a group, Your Excellency, we do not take our mandates lightly. We are sincerely grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for deeming us fit and proper to hold our respective offices. That is why we are here to pledge our support to this Administration and to you as First Lady of the Nation.
We commend your Renewed Hope Initiatives. Your dedication to women’s empowerment is truly inspiring. Your efforts at inclusion and ensuring women’s voices are heard are noteworthy. Your support for women’s rights and gender equity, as well as initiatives that uplift women, continue to encourage us.
As a group and as individuals, we affirm our commitment and unflinching support for your initiatives. We pledge to work collaboratively with your office as you continue to foster unity among women from diverse backgrounds, drive progress, and implement initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and national development.
We also pledge our solidarity and support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President and commit to working assiduously for his success in the 2027 election,” she said.
A total of 24 female CEOs heading various government agencies and organizations were part of the delegation.
