APC Slams Senator Ogunwale: Tinubu’s Reforms Are Irreversible, 2027 Victory Assured
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has noted with concern the reckless, uninformed, illogical, and misleading utterances of Senator Felix Ogunwale of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who recently boasted that his party would defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and reverse landmark economic reforms such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market.
Ordinarily, we would have ignored such laughable posturing from a party that could not win a single ward in Lagos in 2023, but for the sake of unsuspecting Nigerians, it is important to set the record straight.
- On the fuel subsidy removal:
Senator Ogunwale’s promise to sell petrol at ₦300 per litre is not only deceitful but also insulting to the intelligence of Nigerians. The fuel subsidy regime was the single largest drain on Nigeria’s economy, enriching a corrupt cartel while depriving states of funds for development. President Tinubu took the courageous and patriotic decision to end this decades-long fraud, thereby saving trillions of naira that are now being redirected into infrastructure, education, health, and palliatives to cushion the effects on the masses. - On the floating of the naira:
The unification of the exchange rate was necessary to restore transparency and investor confidence. While no one denies the temporary pains of adjustment, the previous system of multiple exchange rates was a breeding ground for corruption and arbitrage that bled the economy. Nigeria cannot go back to a system that rewards a few at the expense of the majority. Serious economies face challenges, but reforms are meant to secure the future. - On Ogunwale’s economic fallacy:
It is shocking that a former senator would suggest that Nigeria can distribute ₦100 million to each citizen. This is nothing but economic illiteracy of the highest order. Such statements not only ridicule Senator Ogunwale but also expose the ADC’s lack of understanding of governance and fiscal responsibility. Leadership is about building sustainable systems, not making reckless promises to score cheap political points. - On insecurity:
The APC-led federal government is fully committed to securing the lives and property of Nigerians. Contrary to Ogunwale’s insinuations, significant progress is being recorded daily by our security agencies in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. President Tinubu has consistently provided both political will and resources to security agencies, unlike in the past when insecurity was met with lip service. - On alleged harassment of opposition:
The APC has always been a strong advocate of democracy and pluralism. It is hypocritical for Senator Ogunwale to accuse the ruling party of harassment when it is the leaders of APC that fought against military dictatorship and entrenched democratic principles that allow even fringe parties like ADC to have a voice today. The claim of Nigeria sliding into a one-party state is therefore baseless.
The truth is that Senator Ogunwale and his party are desperate for relevance. Nigerians are too politically sophisticated to be deceived by empty promises and fantastical economics. The reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be tough, but they are necessary for the long-term stability and prosperity of our nation.
Come 2027, the APC is confident that Nigerians will once again renew their mandate for President Tinubu, who has demonstrated uncommon courage, vision, and leadership in steering our country through challenging times.
