A 60-year-old man, identified as Ajayi Femi, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman in Lagos.
It was gathered that the suspect invited the victim to his room and offered her a soft drink laced with a sleeping drug, which rendered her unconscious before he allegedly committed the act.
The victim reportedly regained consciousness and realized what had happened. She immediately reported the incident to her elder sister, who took her to the Meiran Police Station.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, said that the Gender Unit has charged Femi to court for raping the 24-year-old victim.
According to him, on August 22, 2025, the case was reported by the victim’s sister at Meiran Police Station and was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command on the same day for discreet investigation.
Further investigations, including medical examinations conducted by the Gender Unit, revealed that the suspect spiked the survivor’s drink, rendering her unconscious before having unlawful sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Hundeyin added that the suspect made a confessional statement during interrogation. He has since been charged to court and remanded in custody pending the next adjourned date.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual offences and maintaining a safe environment for all residents of Lagos State.
He also encouraged members of the public to report all cases of sexual offences at the Family Support Units across divisions and area commands for prompt action and justice.
