Tinubu Appoints Ex-Fashola Aide Idris Olorunnimbe as NCC Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Idris Olorunnimbe as Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), marking a new chapter for the nation’s telecommunications regulator.
Olorunnimbe was a Personal Assistant to the then Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola.
The announcement, contained in a statement by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday, also confirmed the constitution of the boards for the NCC and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), both under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Olorunnimbe, a governance strategist with a track record in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, previously served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee and drove impactful programmes that boosted job creation and business growth across the state.
He will lead the NCC board alongside Dr Aminu Waida, who retains his position as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.
Waida’s appointment was first made by President Tinubu in October 2023 and confirmed by the Senate the following month.

In a related move, the President approved the Board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), with Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, as Chairman.
