Lagos Set to Celebrate Afro-Brazilian Heritage with Fanti Carnival on April 20
The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is set to host the much-anticipated Lagos Fanti Carnival on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in a vibrant celebration of Afro-Brazilian heritage, culture, and artistry.
The event will take place at the historic Remembrance Arcade, Old Defence Road, Lagos Island, starting at 12:00 PM.
This year’s edition promises an explosion of colors, music, dance, and traditional displays, reflecting the deep cultural ties between Lagos and the Afro-Brazilian community.
A signature event in Lagos’ cultural calendar, the Fanti Carnival is rooted in the rich history of returnee Afro-Brazilians who settled in Lagos centuries ago, blending Brazilian and Yoruba influences to create a unique cultural identity.
Attendees can expect to enjoy live performances, elaborate costumes, masquerades, food exhibitions, and a street parade that will electrify the heart of Lagos Island.
“This carnival is not just a celebration, it’s a tribute to our shared history and the beauty of cultural fusion,” the Ministry said in a statement. “We invite all Lagosians and visitors to come and experience the spirit of community, creativity, and heritage.”
