Dr. Betta Edu Hosts Emir of Kano, Acting Governor, and Others for Ramadan Iftar in Calabar
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Betta Edu, hosted an esteemed gathering for the breaking of fast (Iftar) at her residence in Calabar, welcoming prominent dignitaries and members of the Muslim community.
Among the distinguished guests was His Highness, the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, CFR, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University of Calabar.
The Emir, accompanied by his entourage, was warmly received for the Ramadan event.
Also in attendance was the Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, alongside the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi.
She led a delegation comprising the Chairman and members of the University’s Governing Council, the university management, and representatives from the student community.
The gathering also saw the presence of leaders of the Muslim community in Cross River State, along with other faithful observing the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Betta Edu emphasized the significance of unity and interfaith harmony, noting that the Iftar took place at a time when Christian faithful were also observing Lent.
She reaffirmed that Nigeria remains a nation under God, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration committed to fostering cultural appreciation and religious inclusivity, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
She extended her heartfelt wishes, saying, “Ramadan Kareem to all Muslim faithful, and Happy Golden Jubilee Celebrations to my alma mater, the University of Calabar.”
