Sanwo-Olu Condemns Divisive Social Media Post Calling for #IgboMustGo Protest

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has strongly condemned a recent social media post by LagosPedia, a handle on X (formerly Twitter), that called for the Igbo community to vacate Lagos and the Southwest region of Nigeria.

The post also urged followers to prepare for a planned protest under the hashtag #IgboMustGo, scheduled from August 20 to 30, 2024.

In a swift response, Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government distanced themselves from what they described as “reckless, divisive, and dangerous rhetoric.”

The Governor reaffirmed that Lagos remains a welcoming home for all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds.

Sanwo-Olu expressed deep concern over the post, viewing it as an attempt to create discord between the Yoruba people of the Southwest and other tribes, particularly those who have made Lagos their permanent residence.

The Governor urged Lagosians to remain calm and not to allow any individual or group to incite tension within the state. He also called on security agencies to promptly investigate the origin of the post and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“Lagos will continue to be a place of unity and harmony for all,” Sanwo-Olu assured, as he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security.
