IBESHE COMMUNAL CLASH: COUNCIL CHAIR VISITS COMMUNITY, APPEALS FOR PEACE

The Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area,Hon Ramotalai Akinlola-Hassan has appealed to all warring factions in the Ibeshe communal clash,to embrace peace and allow government to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

Reports had it that violent clash broke out between the indigenous people (youths) of Ibeshe and residents of sea beach on Monday,4th March,2024, over alleged refusal of some residents of sea beach to obtain permission from the traditional ruler of the community, the Ovori of Ibeshe, Oba Gausu Alani Rasaki, for the interment of a corpse in their settlement.

According to unconfirmed reports, youths from Ibeshe main town stormed the sea beach settlement, attacked the residents, looted properties,shops and also burnt down many houses and vandalized Ibeshe police station and two popular beach resorts in the area, with many people wounded and one person allegedly killed.

Addressing residents of Ibeshe sea beach, while on a sympathy visit to the community on Friday,Hon Akinlola-Hassan,who was accompanied on the visit by political and community leaders in Oriade,as well as security personnel, from Area L Command, Ibeshe and Ilashe police divisions,condoled with the people over the loss of their properties and assured them that government will do everything to ensure that such needless crisis does not occur again in the community.

” I am not here as an indigene of Ibeshe, but as the Chief Security Officer and Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, to sympathise with you and ensure that total peace is restored in your community”,Hon Akinlola-Hassan submitted.

While appealing to the people, most especially, the youths to restrain from any reprisal attack and maintain peace,Hon Akinlola-Hassan disclosed that a formal report about the incident had already been submitted to the Lagos State Government, and by next week,a peace meeting will be held at the council secretariat, where twelve representatives of each community will be invited to a round table discussion, to resolve the crisis.
