Fed Gov says plans to reduce number of unemployed youths is yielding results as it kicks off of free Leather training in Lagos
The. Federal Government says deliberate plans to reduce the number of unemployed youths and unskilled Nigerians is beginning to yield positive results with the kick off of the Leather works training programme in Lagos.
At least 100 residents of Lagos are expceted to benefit from the one month long free training in collaboration with YINKODEEN, a company located in Isolo-Ejigbo area of the state.
While speaking at the flag off of the training programme, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Enterpreneurship Education, Abiola Arogundade said the mandate given to her by Mr President was to empower good number of unemployed Nigerians adding the exercise will be replicated in other states across the country
She explained that the programme which was not influenced by party politics was to unlock the hidden potentials of the beneficiaries in order to open unexpected doors of opportunity for them.
The Presidential aide urged them to put in their best, feel free to relate with their facilitators saying the initiative was part of efforts by the Tinubu led federal government to bridge unemployment and poverty level in the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President assured that the best 50 among the trainees would be offered jobs at the end of exercise while others given loan as. starts up.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Tunde Samsideen Olayinka said the facility is open for more collaboration towards empowering young Nigerians with vocational skills adding it was one of the ways of given back to the society.
He however assured the beneficiaries of unhindered access to the facility after their training programme.
Also offering words of advise, the National Chairman Artisan and Leather Association of Nigeria, Ayodele Mosaku Olasunkanmi expressed satisfaction with the iniative that government is providing platform for then to acquire modern skills that will give them strength.
He encouraged then to be self reliant as the key to success in life, saying acquisition of. knowledge should be their priority and not immediate monetary rewards.
One of the trainees, Taiwo Bolaji Mulero expressed worry that some companies have folded up from the industry.
He stressed the need for the Federal Ministry of Education to encourage
Enterpreneurship to be part of the curriculum in schools from primary to Tertiary instutions.
Question from Mr Taiwo Alabi Adeyemi who is a father to two of the Trainees on whether they will be empowered with the necessary tools to work with after the exercise was responded to by the SSA who assured that they will be provided with soft loans as start-up.
