As part of efforts to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on residents, the authorities at the Lagos Island East LCDA has announced plans to introduce free Transportation system within the area.
The council chairman, Hon Muibi Alade Folawiyo disclosed this at the 9th Subsidy Food Palliative and Comminity market held beside the council secretariat.
He said the measures became imperative due to the hardship faced by the people in meeting basic needs of life.
According to him and i quote”” Nigerians are facing increasing difficulties in attending to food needs, transportation and other necessity following the removal in fuel subsidy in the country. We cannot afford to abandon our people to their fate, hence the need to respond swiftly to their demands”. End of quote.
He explained that the ongoing Subbsidy Food Palliative and Community market initiative was in fulfilment of campaign promises to residents of the area.
The council boss noted that he kicked off the program since the first 100 days in office long before the palliatives program by the Federal Government.
He.said that several thousands of residents have benefitted from the initiative he promised to sustain till the end of his tenure.
On their part, some of the residents who benefitted from the exercise commended the Chairman for initiating programmes that are result oriented
Some of the items offered to residents at an affordable rate at the Community market include: Rice, Garri, Beans, Noodles, palm oil, egg and Chicken.
