CSER CONDEMNS GRUESOME MURDER OF SECURITY OPERATIVES IN IMO STATE

A civil society organization Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has condemned in the strongest terms the horrifying killing of about 8 security operatives comprising soldiers and policemen in the course of the discharge of their lawful functions by members of the proscribed terrorist group IPOB/ESN in Umualumaku community in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo state on Tuesday 19th of September 2023.

In a statement issued in Lagos by Nelson Ekujumi the executive director of the organization on Wednesday 20th 2023, it stated that, “We are shocked, angry and traumatized by the gory manner in which the patriotic security operatives met their untimely death as they were ambushed, killed and burnt by the blood sucking IPOB/ESN terrorists whose criminality against humanity stands condemned in its entirety”.

The organization used the occasion of the statement to commiserate with the President and Commander in chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria, the minister of defence, the chief of army staff, the inspector general of police, the immediate and extended families of the fallen heroes, their colleagues, associates and friends over this untimely, barbaric and painful loss and wished the gallant heroes, eternal rest.

The group charged the security agencies to go all out to apprehend the perpetrators of this dastardly act to face the music for their terrorist acts in line with the provisions of the law, so as to send an unambiguous statement to these enemies of humanity that the sanctity of human life as enshrined in our constitution is sacrosanct.

CSER called on the security agencies not to be deterred and demoralized by this barbarism and temporary setback, but to remain focused, professional and determined to ensure that its allegiance to its oath, is non-negotiable within its rules of engagement.

The civil society organization also called on the civil populace to recognize that security is everybody’s business by ensuring that they perform civic responsibility of being the ears and eyes of the security agencies in collaboration for a safe, peaceful and secured environment and community.
