Lagos residents defy police order, embark on peaceful protest at Ojuelegba
Hundreds of Lagos residents have embarked on a peafecul protest around the popular under bridge at Ojuelegba over the current economic hardship in the country.
Our correspondent reports that the protest was conveyed by a human rights organisation known as the “Take It Back Movement”.
Some leadership of the group said the demonstration became necessary to call government attention to the steady rise in food prices and the overall high cost of living in Nigeria.
This protest defied the early warning from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade that the command will not allow any form of social disturbance under the guise of protest.
Fayoade had warned residents of the state against grounding economic activities ahead of the planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The NLC announced a two-day nationwide protest on February 16 to highlight economic challenges. Scheduled for February 27 and 28, to address their grievances against the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
