𝐀𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐚 𝐈𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐦𝐮 𝐋𝐂𝐃𝐀 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩⁣⁣

⁣⁣Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, Executive Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has secured admission assurances for prospective students from the council seeking admission into Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), in a move aimed at expanding access to higher education for indigent youths.

The assurance was secured during a courtesy visit by the council chairman to the Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, Prof. Bidemi Bilikis Lafiaji-Okuneye, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the university’s office.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Saliu said the visit was part of efforts to ensure that qualified applicants from Apapa Iganmu LCDA, particularly those from low-income families who cannot afford private university education, gain admission into the state-owned institution.

The council chairman further pledged to personally sponsor the education of the beneficiaries once they are offered admission, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to investing in human capital development.

According to him, his vision extends beyond physical infrastructure, stressing that educating young people remains one of the most sustainable investments any government can make.

“I do not want to build roads alone; I want to build the people who will walk on those roads. My desire is to see the youths of Apapa Iganmu become educated and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.

Hon. Saliu also noted that he was among the beneficiaries of the developmental legacy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recalling some residents of Apapa have received training from LASUED when it was formerly Lagos State College of Education.

He also highlighted his administration’s achievements across education, healthcare, infrastructure, security and other sectors, emphasizing that education remains a top priority.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilikis Lafiaji-Okuneye, commended the council chairman for his personal commitment to education, describing his intervention as uncommon and commendable.

She assured him that all applicants presented by the council would be offered admission, irrespective of their scores, describing the chairman’s intervention as a rare demonstration of leadership and dedication to youth development.

Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye also discussed strategies for monitoring the academic progress of the students to ensure they excel throughout their studies.
