Tinubu Reaffirms Renewed Hope Agenda as FCT Commissions 198km Water Pipeline Project

…as President promises expanded water coverage across FCT, says access to clean water is a fundamental right

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration is a deliberate commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians, declaring that it is β€œnot a mere slogan but a social contract” anchored on people centred governance.

The President made the declaration during the commissioning of the 198 kilometre Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he was represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Speaking on behalf of the President, the First Lady said the project reflects the administration’s resolve to deliver meaningful infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens.

She recalled that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, had presented the project’s master plan to the President after it became evident that residents of Bwari, Ushafa and neighbouring communities had relied on untreated boreholes and streams for decades.

According to her, the President immediately approved the project, describing access to clean water as a fundamental right rather than a privilege.

β€œThis project is more than just laying pipes and turning on taps. By linking Bwari Township and its environs directly to the treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam, we are ending waterborne diseases and the constant, expensive digging of individual boreholes,” the President said in his message.

He added that the project had created more than 1,600 direct and indirect jobs for youths, while assuring residents that similar water projects would extend to Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji before the expiration of his administration.

The First Lady also offered prayers for the nation, citing 2 Kings 2:19 to 21, and prayed that the project would symbolise healing, peace, fruitfulness and prosperity for Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project is the 50th project commissioned under the current administration since 2023.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for providing the necessary support to execute developmental projects, noting that effective leadership requires strong backing from the government.

Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration would continue to implement projects aimed at improving the welfare of Abuja residents, adding that at least 10 more completed projects would be commissioned before January 2027.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, and the Managing Director of China Geo Engineering Limited, Zhong Xiang, commended President Tinubu’s administration for prioritising projects and policies that directly benefit the people.

The Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project will provide potable water to residents of Bwari, Ushafa and surrounding communities, marking a major step in improving access to safe water and public health across the area.
