Maritime Journalists Retreat: FIRS to Lead Strategic Discussions at MARCON’s International Event
By Raheem Ibrahim
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is expected to deliver the keynote address at the forthcoming All Maritime Journalists Retreat organised by the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON).
The retreat will host both Nigerian and international stakeholders across the maritime, trade, finance, and technology sectors, who will convene to explore innovative approaches to strengthening Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.
The programme is scheduled for Thursday, 4 December 2025, at De Marii Hotel LFZ in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, Lekki. This year’s retreat is themed “Maximising Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Import and Export Trade.”
In a statement jointly signed by Paul Ogbuokiri, Chairman, and Adaku Onyenucheya, Secretary of the Conference Planning Committee, MARCON announced that the FIRS will deliver a technical paper titled “Onboarding on the National Single Window Platform: A Step-by-Step Guide.”
The presentation will provide practical insights into integrating with the National Single Window (NSW), a transformative platform designed to streamline documentation, improve transparency, and enhance the efficiency of import and export processes.
MARCON noted that with the NSW Secretariat domiciled within the FIRS, the agency’s participation underscores its central role in driving technology-enabled trade facilitation and supporting the government’s efforts to modernise revenue administration and compliance systems.
Beyond the technical sessions, the retreat aims to deepen maritime journalists’ understanding of the digital tools and evolving policy frameworks shaping Nigeria’s trade environment. Participants will also engage with practical case studies and expert-led analyses designed to strengthen their reportage and industry engagement.
The event is further expected to enhance collaboration between the media and regulatory agencies, fostering accurate, development-focused coverage that supports national efforts to build a more competitive and technology-driven maritime sector.
