TRIBUTE TO A LIFE WELL-LIVED: CONDOLENCES TO DR. QASIM AKINRETI AND FAMILY
By Tunji Oladejo
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un!
I commiserate with my childhood friend and classmate at the University of Ibadan, where he studied Special Education/Communication and Language Arts, while I studied Communication and Language Arts; the former Chairman of NUJ, Lagos Council; and the Deputy Director with the Voice of Nigeria (VoN), Abuja, Dr Qasim Akinreti, on the death of his beloved wife, Hajia Naimat Akinreti, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The passing of Hajia Naimat Akinreti, the beloved wife of Dr Qasim Akinreti, which came barely a week after the death of the wife of another prominent journalist in Nigeria, Yusuph Olaniyonu, an editor with THISDAY newspaper, is a painful reminder of the transient nature of life. As I offer my deepest condolences to Dr Akinreti and his family, I pray that Allah grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
Hajia Naimat Akinreti’s life was proof of the power of love, care and dedication. As a pillar of support to her family, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
As Dr Akinreti and his family navigate this difficult period, my family stands in solidarity with them. We pray that Allah forgives Hajia Naimat Akinreti’s shortcomings and grants her eternal rest in Aljanah Firdaus. May her soul find peace and tranquillity in the hereafter.
To Dr Akinreti, my family extends our heartfelt condolences. May Allah grant you and your family the calmness, patience and strength to cope with this immense loss. Your courage and resilience are a source of inspiration to many.
As I offer my prayers and support to the family, I urge friends, associates, classmates and well-wishers to continue to surround them with prayer, love, care and kindness during this challenging time. May Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon the family and the departed soul.
Rest in peace, Hajia Naimat Akinreti. May your legacy live on forever. Amin Thuma Amin.
