Clean Up the Villa to Help Tinubu Succeed, APC Chieftain Fuoad Oki Urges
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fuoad Oki, has called for a thorough cleansing of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, saying it is essential for President Bola Tinubu to effectively deliver on his campaign promises and build a better Nigeria.
According to Oki, such a move will help prevent those working closely with the President from offering anti-people advice or promoting policies that run contrary to the country’s socio-economic growth.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Ikeja, Lagos, tagged “Speaking the Truth to Power: 2027 in Retrospect,” Oki lamented that past records show how individuals who entered the Villa with noble intentions and integrity often left office with tainted reputations.
He urged President Tinubu and his allies to treat his advice as a matter of urgent national importance if they truly want him to leave behind a positive legacy.
Oki also warned that the 2027 general election would be a defining moment for Nigeria, expressing concern that voters may be more influenced by the candidate’s personality than the political party.
He projected that Lagos State may record about 3.5 million valid votes in the 2027 elections, despite having nearly six million registered voters, and predicted that rigging would be more difficult if the ongoing electoral amendment mandating compulsory use of BVAS and same-day elections is passed.
The APC stalwart further noted that if President Tinubu does not seek re-election, it could take another 40 years before a Yoruba person returns to the presidency.
He emphasized the importance of a strong legislative arm, describing it as the foundation upon which a nation’s sovereignty rests.
Oki also urged Nigerians to re-elect President Tinubu in 2027, noting that the country had already entrusted him with its sovereignty.
However, he expressed concern that many of those around the President are “yes men” who rarely tell him the truth about the current state of the nation.
He added that President Tinubu is on a crucial but challenging mission to rebuild Nigeria after years of misrule and misplaced priorities, while lamenting the growing influence of ethnic and religious sentiments in the country over the past fifteen years.
