Lagos APC Slams Farooq Kperogi, Labels Him ‘Nobel Laureate in Falsehood’
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized United States-based Nigerian columnist, Farooq Kperogi, describing him as a serial purveyor of falsehoods whose reputation has been built on fabrications rather than facts.
In a statement titled “Farooq Kperogi: Nobel Laureate in Falsehood” and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party said Nigerians are already familiar with Kperogi’s pattern of spreading sensational but misleading claims, followed by embarrassing retractions.
According to Oladejo, Kperogi has a history of controversial and discredited commentaries, citing instances such as:
- The Aisha Buhari Divorce Rumour: Kperogi once alleged that former First Lady Aisha Buhari had divorced the late President Muhammadu Buhari before his passing, a claim he later retracted and apologised for.
- The Tinubu Collapse Hoax: He falsely claimed President Bola Tinubu had collapsed in his Paris bathroom, only for the President to return home strong and active.
- The APC Zoning Falsehood: Kperogi declared that APC had zoned the 2023 presidency to the North, which was later disproved when Tinubu emerged as the party’s candidate and eventual winner.
- The Jubril from Sudan Conspiracy: He amplified the claim that President Buhari had died and been replaced by a body double, a theory dismissed as absurd.
Oladejo described Kperogi’s recent claim that President Tinubu suffers from a “presidential dissociative disorder” as both reckless and ironic.
“With such a track record, it is ironic that Kperogi presumes to diagnose a sitting President with an imaginary illness. If anything, his own gaffes and falsehoods point to a disorder of judgment and credibility,” the statement read.
The Lagos APC spokesman further mocked Kperogi as a candidate for what he called an “ignoble Nobel Award for Falsehood,” insisting that he had diligently earned such a title through years of reckless commentary.
In contrast, Oladejo said President Tinubu’s leadership has been defined by real reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate unification, curbing financial leakages, stabilizing public finances, and attracting renewed investor confidence.
“While President Tinubu is delivering reality, not rhetoric, Kperogi continues to spin fantasies from behind a keyboard in America,” he added.
The party maintained that history would remember Tinubu as a courageous reformer, while Kperogi would be remembered as a “purveyor of gaffes and falsehoods.”
