The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has declared its readiness to work with and support the newly elected President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

During a courtesy visit to the MWUN National Secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday, the AMJON delegation, led by Vice President Vera Osokpor, commended the union for the successful conduct of its recent election, which produced Comrade Francis Bunu Abi as the new President-General.

The journalists pledged their full support to the new leadership and assured the union of adequate media coverage of its activities.

Describing Comrade Bunu as a pragmatic and press-friendly labour leader known for his straightforward communication, AMJON expressed its commitment to working closely with him to advance the maritime sector.

The association also acknowledged the vital role MWUN plays in Nigeria’s economic growth and wished the President-General success in discharging the responsibilities of his office.

In his response, Comrade Bunu, a seasoned maritime expert and veteran sailor from Delta State, warmly appreciated AMJON for the visit and reaffirmed his readiness to support the journalism community.

He stressed the importance of balanced and fair reportage, free from sensationalism, noting that journalists serve as the crucial “watchdogs” of the maritime industry.

Bunu further assured that the union would remain open to fostering a strong and enduring partnership with the press.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties committing to deepen their collaboration for the overall growth of the maritime sector and the nation at large.
