Sanwo-Olu Warns APC Candidates Ahead of July 12 LG Elections: “Don’t Take Anything for Granted”
Ahead of the July 12 Local Government Elections in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates and party members not to take anything for granted.
The governor emphasized the need for rigorous grassroots campaigns to secure a landslide victory for the party in both the chairmanship and councillorship elections.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the charge during the Stakeholders’ Special Engagement with Mr. Governor, held at the State House in Marina, Lagos.
He expressed satisfaction that the party had remained united despite the outcome of its primary elections, referencing chairmanship aspirant Prince Ladega and others who were asked to step down and accepted the supremacy of the party.
The governor reiterated that every member of the party matters, hence the importance of the stakeholders’ summit. He stressed that the party’s candidates must not disappoint those who entrusted them with the mandate, noting that such trust comes with great responsibility.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu is pleased with the party’s progress in Lagos and is confident that the results from the council elections will be worthy of celebration.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, advised the candidates to emulate President Bola Tinubu by applying wisdom in leadership, just as he did during his tenure as governor of Lagos State. He urged politicians to accept the outcome of their political aspirations with humility and prayed for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s successful completion of his tenure.
Prince Olusi added that the story of Lagos would be incomplete without mentioning the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, who governed for only four years and a few months but transformed the state’s landscape. He also highlighted the enduring legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose free education policy in the South West laid the foundation for many of today’s leaders.
The Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, called on party members to work collectively towards victory in the July 12 elections. She urged candidates to reach out to fellow aspirants who contested against them to build a united front at the polls.
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, appealed to women across the state to mobilize massively and ensure the party’s success. She expressed confidence that the elected officials would fulfill the party’s promise of delivering people-oriented programmes once in office.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, charged candidates and party members to embark on vigorous house-to-house campaigns that will translate to massive votes on election day.
The July 12 local government elections will take place in 20 Local Government Areas, 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and across 375 wards in Lagos State.
