Lagos PDP Holds LG Primary, Vows to Contest Elections in 57 Councils

…Laments LASIEC Fees for Candidates

The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to give the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) a tough contest in the forthcoming July 12 council elections in the state.

The party has also declared its readiness to field candidates in all the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Philip Aivoji, gave this assurance in an exclusive interview with TheNewsNow ahead of the PDP’s primary elections taking place today. He urged all aspirants and party members to remain peaceful and to strictly adhere to the established guidelines.

Aivoji revealed that the PDP would hold its primaries across the various LGAs, noting that many of the candidates are expected to emerge through consensus.

As part of efforts to democratize the process, he said the party decided to issue nomination forms free of charge to all Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants.

The PDP Chairman further stated that it is time for Lagos residents to take their destiny into their own hands by giving the opposition party a chance to provide selfless service to the people.

He also expressed disappointment over the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC)’s decision to charge aspirants N150,000 for Chairmanship and N50,000 for Councillorship positions, describing the fees as excessive.

Aivoji argued that the move by LASIEC appears to be a deliberate attempt to discourage opposition parties from participating in the election, thereby giving the ruling APC an unfair advantage to sweep the polls.
