The Lagos Island East LCDA has reiterated its commitment to providing free education for pupils in primary schools within the area, stating that education remains the most valuable legacy to bequeath to the current generation.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the council, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo, stated this at the 18th edition of the Community Market and Palliative Distribution to residents of the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

He explained that his appreciation for education stems from the free education he received during the administration of the former governor of the state, the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muibi Folawiyo promised that the council would take full responsibility for the educational materials of every pupil in primary schools to reduce the burden on their parents and guardians.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, four surviving students from the Ohen Nursery and Primary School, which collapsed in 2019 in the Itafaji area, have been offered full scholarships.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also disclosed that the council has rebuilt the school, now known as Itafaji Montessori School, which is set for commissioning. The school has been upgraded to a higher standard and provided with modern equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The council boss further ordered all traders selling on the streets around Tapa to vacate the area, stating that construction work will begin there next week.<\/span><\/p>\n

He declared that his vision is to build a Local Government that will be the envy of all and to leave an inspiring legacy for future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muibi Folawiyo, who thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his regular support to council chairmen, believes that population explosion is one of the major problems facing the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

On his part, the Head of the Agriculture Department in the council, James Akowanu, warned that anyone caught with fake tickets will face the full force of the law.<\/span><\/p>\n

He appealed to residents to be peaceful while participating in the market, assuring them that the food items will go around to all those with genuine tickets.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his goodwill message, Hon. Sataru Arilesere urged residents to be patient with the government, adding that the current economic challenges are not unique to the country alone.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also urged traders supplying items at the community market not to compromise on quality standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hon. Arilesere thanked the council leadership for supporting the Chairman in sustaining the Community Market and Poverty Alleviation Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the leaders of the Nigerian Union of Tailors, Alhaja Saidat Firdaus Oshodi, called on residents who attack the Chairman for not receiving tickets to buy items at the market to reconsider their actions.<\/span><\/p>\n

She also solicited support from residents for the Chairman in the forthcoming council elections in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Items sold to residents at highly subsidized prices include beans, rice, garri, palm oil, eggs, dried fish, live chicken, yam powder, and semovita.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
