{"id":872,"date":"2023-03-13T13:43:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T13:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=872"},"modified":"2023-03-13T13:43:11","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T13:43:11","slug":"cbn-directed-banks-to-dispense-and-accept-old-naira-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2023\/03\/13\/cbn-directed-banks-to-dispense-and-accept-old-naira-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"CBN Directed Banks To Dispense And Accept Old Naira Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo confirmed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has directed <\/span><span class=\"s2\">commercial<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">banks<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> to <\/span><span class=\"s2\">dispense<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and accept old naira notes as <\/span><span class=\"s2\">deposits<\/span><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Soludo, a former CBN governor, made this known in a statement he posted on his social media handles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He explained that the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele gave the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">directive<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> at a Banker\u2019s Committee meeting on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He added that Emefiele <\/span><span class=\"s2\">personally<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> confirmed the directive to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to him, residents should report banks refusing to accept <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the old<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> notes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cCommercial banks have been directed by the Central Bank to dispense old <\/span><span class=\"s2\">currency notes<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and also to receive the same deposits from customers. Tellers at commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits, and there is <\/span><span class=\"s2\">no limit<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers\u2019 Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March 2023.
