{"id":841,"date":"2023-03-10T18:39:46","date_gmt":"2023-03-10T18:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=841"},"modified":"2023-03-11T10:04:20","modified_gmt":"2023-03-11T10:04:20","slug":"gbajabiamila-tops-list-of-contenders-for-tinubus-chief-of-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2023\/03\/10\/gbajabiamila-tops-list-of-contenders-for-tinubus-chief-of-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"Gbajabiamila Tops List Of Contenders For Tinubu\u2019s Chief Of Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>\u2026Fashola, Boss Mustapha, Others In The Race For The Plum Job<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila is a leading candidate for the post of chief of staff to president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the next administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Other contenders for the plum job are the Minister for Works too, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the current Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Who will fill the vacuum likely to be left behind if Gbajabiamila eventually emerge as the CoS is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">It will be recalled that Gbajabiamila was conspicuously missing at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, on Wednesday when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented certificates of return to elected members of the 10th House of Representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Gbajabiamila was re-elected to represent Surulere 1 federal constituency, Lagos, for the 6th Consecutive tenure during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He polled 19,717 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Bosun Jeje, of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 5,121 votes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">It was gathered that the speaker may eventually not represent his constituency in the 10th Assembly as he is likely to be considered for the position of chief of staff to the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the new government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">A source familiar with Gbajabiamila confirmed that the speaker, being one of Tinubu\u2019s core loyalists and having worked with politicians from every federal constituency in Nigeria in the last 20 years, is more likely to be considered for the plum job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">When asked if Gbajabiamila will abandon his fresh mandate to pursue the chief-of-staff job in Tinubu\u2019s government, the source said, \u201cThat is what we are hearing. If you notice, he didn\u2019t come for his certificate of return on Wednesday. The truth is he doesn\u2019t need that certificate; he has everything to function optimally as chief-of-staff to the president in the new government. He has worked with politicians in every federal constituency and across political divides in the last 20 years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">When contacted, the special adviser to the speaker on media and publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, said his principal was not able to attend the presentation of the certificate ceremony. He, however, declined further comments on the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cHe was just not able to be in Abuja for the ceremony,\u201d Lasisi said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Gbajabiamila was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003.
