{"id":6345,"date":"2024-03-20T16:19:18","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T16:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=6345"},"modified":"2024-03-20T16:19:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T16:19:18","slug":"fg-reveals-names-of-terrorism-financiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2024\/03\/20\/fg-reveals-names-of-terrorism-financiers\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Reveals Names Of Terrorism Financiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Nigerian Sanctions Committee on Monday revealed the identities of nine specific individuals and six entities that have been recommended for sanction following their involvement in terrorism financing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The nine individuals under sanctions are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1. Tukur Mamu<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2. Yusuf Ghazali<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">3. Muhammad Sani<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">4. Abubakar Muhammad<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">5. Sallamudeen Hassan<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">6. Adamu Ishak<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">7. Hassana-Oyiza Isah<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">8. Abdulkareem Musa<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">9. Umar Abdullahi<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The six BDCs and firms are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">10. West and East Africa General Trading Company Limited<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">11. Settings Bureau De Change Limited<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">12. G. Side General Enterprises<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">13. Desert Exchange Ventures Limited<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">14. Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">15. Alfa Exchange BDC<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Top of the list of individuals named in the document was a Kaduna-based publisher, Tukur Mamu, who is currently being tried by the Federal Government for allegedly aiding the terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the document sent to Punch, Mamu \u201cparticipated in the financing of terrorism by receiving and delivering ransome payments over the sum of $200,000 US in support of ISWAP terrorists for the release of hostages of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The document said one of the individuals is \u201cthe suspected attacker of the St. Francis Catholic Church Owo, Ondo State on June 5, 2022, and the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, on July 5, 2022.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Another was described as \u201ca financial courier to ISWAP Okene. She is responsible for the disbursement of funds to the widows\/wives of the terrorist fighters of the group.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the document, another of the individuals \u201cin 2015, transferred N60m to terrorism convicts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He was also said to have \u201creceived a sum of N189m between 2016 and 2018.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The same person is said to \u201cown entities and business reported in the UAE court judgment as facilitating the transfer of terrorist funds from Dubai to Nigeria.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Another was said to have \u201chad a total inflow of N61.4 bn and a total outflow of N51.7bn from his accounts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The document further revealed that, in accordance with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, institutions and individuals are required to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(a) immediately, identify and freeze, without prior notice, all funds, assets, and any other economic resources belonging to the designated persons and entities in your possession and report same to the Sanctions Committee;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(b) report to the Sanctions Committee any assets frozen or actions taken in compliance with the prohibition requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(c) immediately file a Suspicious Transactions Report to the NFIU for further analysis on the financial activities of such an individual or entity; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(d) report as a Suspicious Transactions Report to the NFIU, all cases of name matching in financial transactions prior to or after receipt of this List. \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It said, \u201cThe freezing obligation required above shall extend to<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(a) all funds or other assets that are owned or controlled by the designated persons and entities, and not only those that are tied to a particular act, plot, or threat of terrorism or terrorism financing;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(b) those funds or other assets that are wholly or jointly owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, by designated persons or entities;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(c) the funds or other assets derived or generated from funds or other assets owned or controlled directly or indirectly by designated persons or entities; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201c(d) funds or other assets of persons and entities acting on behalf of, or at the direction of designated persons or entities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Sanctions Committee on Monday revealed the identities of nine specific individuals and six entities that have been recommended<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":6346,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6345","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6345","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6345"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6345\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6347,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6345\/revisions\/6347"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/6346"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6345"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6345"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6345"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
