{"id":5242,"date":"2024-01-11T14:42:56","date_gmt":"2024-01-11T14:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=5242"},"modified":"2024-01-11T14:53:53","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T14:53:53","slug":"inec-meets-stakeholders-candidates-sign-peace-accord-ahead-of-surulere-bye-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2024\/01\/11\/inec-meets-stakeholders-candidates-sign-peace-accord-ahead-of-surulere-bye-election\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC meets stakeholders, candidates, sign peace accord ahead of Surulere bye-election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents of Surulere area of Lagos have been assured of safety of their lives and property during the forthcoming bye-election in the area.<\/p>\n<p>They were also urged to be peaceful across party lines during the February 3rd Surulere Federal Constituency I bye-election promising that the exercise would be transparent and their votes will count.<\/p>\n<p>INEC Resident Electorral Commissioner for Lagos, Prof Abayomi Salami stated these at the stakeholders meeting held at the headquarters in Yaba area of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve political parties have indicated interest to participate in the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 Bye-Election.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking at the forum, Prof Ayobami Salami, said that the commission was ready to conduct transparent and credible election without neglecting the rules.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of political parties that attended the meeting, some candidates, and other stakeholders charged INEC to ensure a successful electoral process that will be acceptable by all.<\/p>\n<p>They also stressed the need for early arrival of election materials at various polling units and maximum security that will encourage eligible voters to exercise their franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Leading candidates in the bye-election following the resignation of former Speaker, Rt.Hon Femi Gbajabiamila for the position of Chief of Staff to the President include; Fuad Lagida of the APC, Labour Party.
