Helicopter Crash-lands In Port Harcourt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nigerian_Air_Force\"><span class=\"s1\">Nigerian Air Force<\/span><\/a> (NAF) helicopter, on Friday, crash-landed and exploded at the NAF Base, Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The NAF spokesperson, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the development in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Mr Gabkwet, an air commodore, said the affected aircraft, NAF MI-35P, had taken off to embark on an operation against suspected oil thieves in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He said five persons on board survived the incident with minor injuries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cThe unfortunate incident occurred at about 7.45 am shortly after the aircraft took off for an operation against economic saboteurs in Rivers State,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cFortunately, the entire crew of five survived the crash with very minor injuries and is currently being attended to at NAF Medical Centre Port Harcourt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Mr Gabkwet said the Chief of Air Staff, Hasan Abubakar, an air marshal, was on his way to the scene of the incident to assess the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cAn incident of this nature is yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminals from their nefarious activities,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Not the first time<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The crash-landing of aircraft is not new in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Many, including NAF aircraft, have crash-landed at different times and locations across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The latest incident occurred about seven months after an aircraft belonging to <a href=\"https:\/\/maxair.com.ng\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Max Air crash-landed<\/span><\/a>along the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Another NAF aircraft, in February 2021, crashed while returning to the Abuja airport after reporting engine failure en route to Minna, the Niger State capital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">All the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumtimesng.com\/news\/headlines\/444315-no-survivors-in-military-aircraft-crash-in-abuja-air-force.html?tztc=1\"><span class=\"s1\">seven personnel on board the aircraft died<\/span><\/a> in the crash, NAF authorities had said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian Air Force (NAF)
