{"id":3980,"date":"2023-10-31T17:00:32","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T17:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=3980"},"modified":"2023-10-31T17:00:32","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T17:00:32","slug":"appeal-court-reverses-timipre-sylvas-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2023\/10\/31\/appeal-court-reverses-timipre-sylvas-disqualification\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeal Court Reverses Timipre Sylva\u2019s Disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the judgement nullifying the nomination of Timipre Sylva as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Bayelsa State governorship election scheduled for November 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gatekeepersnews.com\/\">Gatekeepers News<\/a> reports that Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court, Abuja has nullified the nomination of Sylva.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a judgement on Tuesday, a three-member panel of the appellate court held that the Federal High Court, Abuja lacked the jurisdiction to have heard and determined the case filed by Demesuoyefa Kolomo, who described himself as a registered voter and a member of the APC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The court held that Kolomo lacked the locus standi to approach the court to challenge the nomination of the party\u2019s candidate since he had not been an aspirant who participated in APC\u2019s governorship primary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While allowing the appeal filed by Sylva and granted all the reliefs sought, the appellate court set aside the Federal High Court judgement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The court also awarded N1million cost in favour of Sylva.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a separate judgement, the court also allowed a similar appeal filed on the same issue by the APC and equally awarded N1m cost in favour of the APC.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the judgement nullifying the nomination of Timipre Sylva as the candidate of<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":3981,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3980","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3980","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3980"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3980\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3982,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3980\/revisions\/3982"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/3981"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3980"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3980"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3980"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
