I began to ask myself what I could give back that would continue to matter beyond the celebration itself.”

She added:

“I chose hygiene because it is something that affects everyone. Clean hands, clean toilets and clean healthcare environments can make a real difference in the wellbeing of individuals and communities. I want my 42nd birthday to be remembered not simply as a celebration, but as a moment when we collectively chose to serve.”

The campaign is also expected to create opportunities for community engagement, hygiene education and conversations around everyday sanitation practices, particularly in public spaces that experience high human traffic.

Abiola noted that the campaign is not designed to compete with government sanitation or public-health programmes.

“This is not about replacing what government is already doing. It is about adding our own small but meaningful contribution. Government cannot do everything alone, and private organisations and individuals cannot simply wait for government either. We all have a role to play in creating healthier communities.”

The initiative comes at a time when conversations around environmental sanitation, public hygiene and preventive healthcare remain critical to community wellbeing.

For the organisers, however, the campaign represents more than a corporate social responsibility exercise.

It is a personal commitment to turn a significant birthday into a platform for service.

“Forty-two is not just a number for me,” Abiola said. “It is 42 years of life, lessons, relationships and blessings. I want to give something back. If one hospital becomes cleaner, if one healthcare worker is better equipped, if one child learns a hygiene habit that stays with them, or if one community becomes more conscious about cleanliness, then the celebration has achieved something meaningful.”

The campaign’s message is simple, but its ambition is broad:

CLEAN HANDS.
