The outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, has declared that the Board has recorded significant institutional transformation in the last decade, expressing confidence that his successor, Prof. Segun Aina, will take the organisation to greater heights.<\/p>\n
Oloyede made the declaration on Friday, July 31, 2026, while formally handing over the leadership of JAMB to Aina at the Board\u2019s national headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, after 10 years in office.<\/p>\n
In his farewell address titled, \u201cHistory Made, Future Beckons,\u201d Oloyede attributed the achievements recorded during his tenure to divine guidance, collective effort and the support of successive governments, stakeholders, staff and partners.<\/p>\n
He recalled that when he assumed office on August 9, 2016, his inaugural address was titled, \u201cLet\u2019s Do It Together,\u201d stressing that the philosophy of teamwork remained the foundation of his administration.<\/p>\n
Oloyede expressed appreciation to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who appointed him following the recommendation of former Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, as well as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who had earlier nominated him for a government position.<\/p>\n
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, his predecessor Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Permanent Secretary Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan and successive Permanent Secretaries of the ministry, particularly Arc. Dr. Sonny Echono.<\/p>\n
The outgoing Registrar equally acknowledged the support of state governors and other prominent Nigerians whose interventions, he said, contributed to the expansion of JAMB\u2019s infrastructure across the country.<\/p>\n
He specifically commended former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha.<\/p>\n
Oloyede also expressed appreciation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for providing land in four locations across the state for the development of JAMB Professional Test Centres and Registration Centres.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged the contributions of private individuals, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ahmad Raji, for donating a fully equipped Professional Test Centre in Iseyin, and Dr. Abdul-Rauf Babalakin, for granting JAMB free use of the Bola Babalakin Hall in Gbongan for its Annual Policy Meetings.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on JAMB\u2019s history, Oloyede paid tribute to the Board\u2019s former Registrars, including Michael S. Angulu, Mohammed S. Abdulrahman, Bello Ahmed Salim and his immediate predecessor, Prof. Adedibu Ojerinde, saying their contributions provided the foundation upon which subsequent administrations built.<\/p>\n
He equally commended former and serving members of the Governing Board, directors, heads of units, zonal directors, state coordinators and other members of staff for their commitment to the Board\u2019s mandate.<\/p>\n
According to him, JAMB\u2019s transformation over the past decade was anchored on five cardinal principles: welfare, discipline, technology, transparency and networking.<\/p>\n
On staff welfare, Oloyede said his administration invested heavily in improving the working conditions and financial wellbeing of employees, including committing more than N8 billion to strengthening retirement savings.<\/p>\n
He said the Board also introduced retirement benefits of between N3 million and N10 million for retiring staff, a 13th-month salary, examination duty incentives, free daily meals and transportation for staff at critical operational hubs.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that the Board also intervened in the medical treatment of staff and rewarded exceptional employees with cash and other forms of recognition.<\/p>\n
Oloyede said the Board extended its welfare initiatives to candidates by reducing the cost of UTME application by 30%, while providing special arrangements for candidates with special needs, including transportation, accommodation, feeding and refunds of application fees.<\/p>\n
On discipline, the former Registrar said JAMB maintained strict standards and prosecuted more than 10 members of staff over alleged misconduct.<\/p>\n
He said the Board\u2019s commitment to discipline had contributed to its ability to remit billions of naira in operational surpluses to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
Technology, he noted, remained central to the reforms introduced during his tenure, citing the expansion of Computer-Based Testing, improved digital infrastructure, the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), biometric and identity verification, CCTV monitoring, digital payment systems and the Remote Authoring and Moderation System.<\/p>\n
He also mentioned the Bring-Your-Own-Device initiative, which he said would be further developed and operationalised.<\/p>\n
Oloyede said transparency was another major pillar of his administration, noting that JAMB\u2019s operational and financial activities were regularly published through its weekly bulletin.<\/p>\n
He said the introduction of CAPS had also made the admission process more transparent by enabling stakeholders to scrutinise admission decisions and reducing opportunities for under-the-table admissions.<\/p>\n
On networking, he said JAMB worked closely with security agencies, tertiary institutions, professional associations, civil society organisations, the media and 1,010 private Computer-Based Test centres to improve service delivery.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted JAMB\u2019s collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission, the Nigerian Communications Commission and international educational assessment organisations.<\/p>\n
According to him, JAMB also collaborated with 18 other national agencies and institutions to establish the Nigerian Educational Assessment Academy for the training of professional educational assessors.<\/p>\n
Oloyede credited Prof. Emeritus Peter Okebukola, Chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group, with compiling a list of 200 achievements recorded by the Board during his tenure.<\/p>\n
He also acknowledged the contributions of several individuals, including Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Fabian Okoro, Dami Bamiro, Maruf Afolabi, Professors Bashir Galadanci, Yahuza Bello, Boniface Ginikanwa Nworgu and Ekanem Ikpi Braide, as well as Muftau Bello.<\/p>\n
While appreciating the Nigerian media for its coverage of JAMB, Oloyede said he was particularly surprised by the positive editorials and opinion articles published about his tenure in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
He also thanked millions of candidates, parents and guardians for their trust, feedback and understanding, saying their expectations continually challenged the Board to improve its services.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Oloyede said he was confident in the ability of his successor to consolidate the gains recorded by the Board.<\/p>\n
He described Aina as a younger professional with strong ICT expertise, expressing optimism that his leadership would propel JAMB to greater heights.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I hand over the leadership of this great institution, I do so with absolute confidence in its future,\u201d he said, adding that the Board was blessed with a dedicated workforce, robust institutional systems and an enduring culture of integrity.<\/p>\n
Oloyede urged stakeholders to support and pray for Aina\u2019s success, stressing that the success of the new Registrar would ultimately be the success of everyone who had contributed to the development of JAMB.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that his administration made mistakes during the decade but said it corrected them where necessary.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor whatever was done right, it was a collective effort. For whatever was not good enough, I accept responsibility and crave your pardon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Oloyede expressed gratitude to his wife, children, grandchildren and close friends for standing by him throughout his tenure, describing the end of his assignment as a return to his family and personal circle.<\/p>\n
He concluded by asking Almighty Allah to continue to guide and protect JAMB in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.<\/p>\n
