Oluwafemi Odunayo Daniel, has described financial autonomy for local governments as \u201cthe only pathway to true grassroots development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Odunayo stated this on Sunday during Front Burner, a live public affairs programme on Super 92.5 FM, where he featured alongside other council chairmen to review one year in office and discuss strategies for boosting Internally Generated Revenue.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, direct access to statutory allocations has enabled councils to plan effectively, execute capital projects faster, and respond swiftly to the needs of residents without bureaucratic bottlenecks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAutonomy will give us the leverage to deliver more democratic dividends to our people. However, even with present constraints, we remain committed to impactful governance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman applauded the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for setting a record of local government autonomy through direct disbursement of allocations and interventions at the grassroots.<br \/>\nHe also expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Governor for impactful measures aimed at strengthening local government administration and development.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman listed achievements of his administration in the last 12 months to include works, education, health, environment, security, and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>In the area of infrastructure, he said seven strategic roads, one in each of the seven wards, had been rehabilitated, alongside Omilani Road. The administration also carried out flood mitigation works at Aguntosolo Primary School in Ijeshatedo and renovated the marriage registry and legislative chamber.<\/p>\n<p>On education, Odunayo said his government distributed free GCE forms to indigent students, and provided school bags, exercise books, uniforms and shoes to primary school pupils.<\/p>\n<p>For the environment, he cited regular desilting of drains and canals, evacuation of refuse from over 45 streets, and ongoing walkway renovations to improve sanitation in the LCDA.<\/p>\n<p>In health, the chairman said primary healthcare centres at Anjorin, Baruwa, Ejire and the Council Secretariat had been equipped with modern facilities, while regular mega health missions and support for vulnerable groups were sustained.<\/p>\n<p>He added that his administration had strengthened collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace, and had rolled out skills acquisition programmes in fashion design, catering, hairdressing, barbering, shoe and bag making, ICT and cosmetology for youths.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on IGR, Odunayo said his government had embarked on reforms to block leakages, digitise revenue collection and expand the levy net in a people-friendly manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to build an IGR model that is transparent, efficient, and does not overburden our traders and residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman also announced a 1-Year In Office Celebration scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, where additional projects would be unveiled. He urged APC members to shun anti-party activities and commended loyal party members for their support.<\/p>\n<p>Other participants on the programme were the Executive Chairmen of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Odi-Olowo\/Ojuwoye LCDA, Orile-Age LCDA, and representatives of Mainland Local Government.<\/p>\n<p>The session, anchored by veteran broadcaster Taiwo Olopade, allowed residents to engage directly with council officials on issues of accountability and service delivery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, Hon.
