The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has been honoured with the School of the Year award at the Higher Institutions Convention of Muslim Students (HICOMS) 2026. The award was presented during the Dinner and Awards Night held on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The event was organised by the Council of Higher Institutions (COHI) to celebrate excellence and outstanding contributions by institutions and students.<\/p>\n

The award was formally presented to the NIJ management on Monday, June 29, 2026, by the Amir of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), NIJ Chapter, Yusuf Sodiq. He was accompanied by the Amirah, Adelaja Shukurat and the General Secretary of the society, Oshodi Rafiat.<\/p>\n

Receiving the award, the Provost of NIJ, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, congratulated the executives of MSSN-NIJ for their dedication, commitment and exemplary leadership. He noted that the recognition reflects the students’ pursuit of excellence, not only in religious activities but also in academics and character, adding that they have brought honour and pride to the institution.<\/p>\n

Also present during the presentation were the Deputy Provost, Dr. Boyeola Ola and the Registrar, Mrs.Patricia Kalesanwo.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the Amir expressed appreciation to the school management for its continuous support and for providing an enabling environment for the 2025\/2026 MSSN-NIJ administration to carry out its activities on campus. He appealed to the management to extend the same support and cooperation to the incoming administration.<\/p>\n

Responding, the Provost assured the students that the institution would continue to provide equal support and assistance to all recognised student societies, irrespective of religious affiliation. He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to creating an environment where every student organisation can thrive while promoting academic excellence and positive campus engagement.<\/p>\n

The presentation concluded with a group photograph featuring the award. The MSSN-NIJ executives expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Provost, Deputy Provost and Registrar for recognising their achievement and celebrating the society’s contribution to the growth and reputation of the institution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
